Homer prepares

Homer performed the story of the Iliad in 24 episodes capturing violence, humour, lyricism in the stories of Achilles and the Fall of Troy.

James McCaughey imagines Homer turning over in his mind the task of the day, preparing himself for the uncertainties and discoveries of performance.

And turns this into a performance in its own right.

Working with percussionist Matthew Horsley, he brings contemporary performance into dialogue with Homer’s text, tracing the ways Homer shaped each evening’s episode to seize his audience’s attention and challenge their expectations.

The performances are staged over two sessions, each containing two episodes, each lasting approx. 80 minutes

Session 1 – Iliad 1& 2

Session 2 – Iliad 3 & 4
